Schools to Close Earlier for November/December 2024 Holiday.
All secondary schools in Kenya will close earlier this month following the government’s failure to release capitation to schools.
The Kenya Secondary Schools Association (KESSHA) raised serious concerns, saying that most schools are unable to operate due to a lack of essential supplies, which will necessitate the smooth running of end-of-year assessments and the Kenya Secondary Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE).
The association indicated that the government has released only sh 15,192 out of the possible sh 22,244 per learner.over the years ,the government capitation has reduced over the few years as the population of learners has reduced.
the KESSHA chair Willy Kuria warned that most schools are facing serious financial crisis.The leaders emphasized that without the resources, most school functions will be stuck as the term approaches to the end.Schools will close earlier for the November/December 2024 holiday. The situation that has seen most staff workers going without their monthly salaries raising the debts even higher.
KESSHA leaders cautioned that most schools are likely to close earlier before the official dates set by the ministry of education (MoE). The ministry of education announced that all schools will close on 25th October 2024.
Following the financial strain , schools have scheduled earlier closure dates to manage financial crisis. Kuria indicated that if the funds will continue delaying, most workers will go for holiday without their salaries.
schools are required to cover various expenses including stationery, utility bills ,local travel and transport expenses , administrative costs among other expenses.
